Excellently located retreat with great views, spas, and activity options. Also hosts regular live music concerts and has a number of restaurants to choose from. Staff all very kind and helpful, and rooms are fantastic. Lots of hikes and walks to be done in the surrounding areas too. Food at the restaurants is expensive for what it is (if not dining at the Michelin star Luce d’oro), but breakfast is included in booking.

What a unique place to relax and slow down. Amazing spa facilities, excellent restaurants, and beautiful surrounding nature. There is nothing like sitting in the sun on the terrace with a coffee and a good book, or in front of the many very cozy fireplaces.The dinner we had at the 2 Michelin Star restaurant, Luce D'Oro, was one of the best Michelin star experiences I ever had, book early though!!!Super helpful and friendly surprisingly young staff.Yes its pricey, but don't forget in includes half pension and all those spa facilities, so that considered it's absolutely fair.Only room for improvement was the fact that both fireplaces in the Retreat spa were broken, a bit sloppy really. And no TV signal on the cardio machines in the gym, something I just do not understand, why spend all that money on the best machines and then not hook them up with a simple cable.Small stuff really, amazing place, we will for sure return.

Very expansive, many rooms, lots of land and trees, 3 pools and spa and sauna, two enormous restaurants, sled rental, parking garage etc. Our heating was poor, service promised. We overlooked a red light, so room service was delayed. Food is good, but not top notch. Access is roundabout.

I have been coming to Schloss Elmau since 2008. On the first visit I was sure I had experienced perfection. And yet, with each visit it gets more perfect as they expand, maintain and change with the times. The staff are ideal, all speak English very well. They are very professional and unobtrusive at the same time. They ensure the best experience possible. Having just come back from another perfect weekend there I wanted to share how wonderful it was.There are two separate places, the Hideaway and the Retreat. Each are amazing in their own way, you cannot go wrong. Both have beautiful infinity pools, at least seven large ones, maybe more. They are at different temperatures, hot to warm to cold. Even when the hotel is full the spa and pools, saunas and Turkish hamam are never crowded. Same with the relaxation rooms which are so comfortable, every kind of chair imaginable. There are so many places to sit and observe the insanely beautiful nature it is kind of hard to chose where to sit for a couple of hours. By the stream or the spa, poolside or open relaxation room. Or go out and enjoy the nature on an organized walk, a hike to the Alm, or an electric bike on mostly deserted roads into the neighboring towns. I have enjoyed some of my favorite massages of all time in the treatment rooms. For active people, there is yoga, a state of the art gym, tennis courts under the mountain views and so much more.In the evenings there are speakers, concerts, bars and libraries, several spaces to chose to spend time in. You are not alone, but it is not crowded as the design is spacious and organized for small groups or couples to sit and talk by candlelight.The rooms are incredible, the design and the comfort and style. Japanese toilets in the Retreat. Robes, soft towels, high pressure showers and modern bathtubs. I finally thought to look at the label on the pillows so I could buy the same ones they use. The rooms are so peaceful and zen like. Perfect lighting, tons of closet space, mini fridges with waters and juice and little treats. And clean without that "someone was here before me" feel.And last, the cuisine. The breakfast (which is included) has more choices than you could every try over several days. A buffet and made to order are available. Fresh baked bread and rolls, local butter and cheeses, fresh juice, local Bavarian specialties. For dinner they have a variety of options, sitting on the beautiful terraces or in the gorgeous dining rooms. One can decide to dress up in their best clothes or just go casual, anything goes. One night we had the Michelin rated cuisine, the next night the outside barbecue. The quality of the food is the highest. Some places are all presentation on the plate, not at Elmau, it is both beautifully plated and equally delicious. The wine list is extensive and the expert sommeliers help you to try new things.This is a romantic couples get away, but also a family place and child's dream to run in the meadows, play in the playgrounds and jump on the trampoline. For those who do not want to be around kids, they separate the spas and pools into family spaces and over age 16 spaces. The dinners are seated at 6 and at 8:00PM to accommodate all needs.I rarely see other Americans there, but on this visit there were quite a few more. People are catching on, there is no place I have ever been in the USA that is anything like or close to this. The nature itself is magical, but with this spa hotel alongside it, it is truly unreal. All you have to do is arrive and from there you just wish you had more time to enjoy all the is available on and near the property. Skiing in winter and hiking in spring, summer and fall. This is not just a hotel, it is a destination with access to nature and relaxation like no other. The very best of the very best.

We had a quick 2- 3 days at this beautiful property. It was a bit slower as they were gearing up for the ski season, but that didn’t damper our trip. The food was incredible, the accommodations were beautiful and I have to say that the spa was fantastic. The staff is there to answer any questions or simply help you navigate, the property is large. A very nice touch one -we woke one morning to a Christmas stocking on our door. Next time we go back, I’ll make sure we book additional treatments and some outdoor activities.

Fantastic place, both the facilities as the surroundings which are of a pristine beauty. Perfect place to relax and reset time. Staff is very nice an willing to help. The general manager even drafted a personal bicycle route to try out with their very modern e-bikes. You feel that there is a long family tradition of running the place and attachment to it.

It's always nice to come to Schloss Elmau a few days before Christmas. Just relax and let yourself be pampered, whether with a facial treatment, a massage and 1.5 hours of hammam, or in the spa in the various baths, etc. the selection is just great. I took my mom for a 3-day trip to Schloss Elmau and we had the most wonderful time. The property is beautiful, the service, the food, the amenities are all faultless. A special thanks to Edyk who was so attentive and helpful with recommendations for hikes and things to do. I hope to be able to return soon.

I’m late in leaving this review and am doing so because my husband left a review when we visited in May 2022 and he was just contacted by a lawyer of Schloss Elmau to remove his review because they deem it to be ‘fake’. This is absolutely not the case and it is horrendous to see this accusation. Just because the review was not good enough for them and Schloss Elmau clearly didn’t like it, it is not ok to accuse my husband of being a fake person and ask for it to be removed. Amazing staff! Maxi was so sweet and helpful. We enjoyed our stay and can’t wait to come back. Such a unique experience.The rooms are beautiful, the bed is comfortable. Pillows were too soft but they have other options to provide upon request.The bathroom is perfect!Everything was clean and plenty of space to hang towels, swimsuits and clothes.Snowboarding equipment might need some updating, however the ski equipment was great.We also enjoyed the indoor archery activity - our group ages ranged between 6-50yo and everyone had lots of fun.And if it’s snowing outside, you should definitely go to the heated outdoor pools. Unforgettable moments.

The breakfast for instance had a rather poor selection in comparison to hotels of similar standards in Austria. the dinner cheese selection as visible in the pictures is not even a third of that offered at Salzburger Hof, Arosa Kitzbuehel or Interalpen. Also, out of the dinners we had at the hotel some of the dishes were bland and boring.the rooms and decoration is rather dated. We don't really like the indian decoration, but that's a matter of taste, however, the Installation as a whole is not the newest.My take is that the hotel can charge the rates it charges simply because there are enough foreign tourists who come because of the G7 fame and are insensitive to prices or have no direct comparison.
